BLOCK THE PAROLE OF VANESSA COLEMAN

We, the comrades of Unit 1012, do not want Vanessa Coleman to be paroled from prison. She was one of the killers of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. We will post the news on her and we have a petition for all to sign.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A woman convicted for aiding in the torture, rape and murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom could be getting out of prison much earlier than expected.

Vanessa Coleman was convicted on charges of facilitating first-degree murder, second-degree murder, theft, rape, and kidnapping less than two years ago, and now she could be eligible for parole before the end of the year.

Normally prisoners serve about 30 percent of their sentence before they are up for parole, but Chris Newsom's Parents, Mary and Hugh Newsom, say because of good behavior rules that time could be shortened for Coleman.

"'Let's talk about adventures. I've had one hell of an adventure,'" Hugh Newsom read.

Those are words written by Vanessa Coleman in a journal entry just days after the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom.

They are words that Mary and Hugh Newsom say prove Coleman should never be allowed out of prison.

"That's the type of person she is," said Mary Newsom.

Wednesday the Newsoms got a phone call from a victim's advocate in Nashville telling them that as long as the inmate keeps good behavior and reports to her bed by curfew she will get 16 days per month off her sentence.

"Which is ridiculous. We're not happy about that at all," said Mary Newsom.

"That's 192 days a year," said Hugh Newsom.

Coleman was sentenced to 35 years in prison meaning if she served 30 percent of her sentence, she wouldn't be eligible for parole for about three more years.

Now she could be out by the end of this year.

"We're very opposed to her being granted parole. Let me make it explicitly clear, okay? She was just as guilty as the rest of them," said Newsom.

Coleman's parole hearing is coming up in October.

If she is granted parole, she could be released as early as December 17.

The Newsoms say they plan to be there and to protest her parole.

They also say they plan to go to the legislature next year to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
