WATCH: Glenn

Last week, Oprah made headlines when
she compared
the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin to the brutal murder of
14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955. During an interview, Oprah said in her mind
the two deaths were “the same thing.”
In the wake of those comments, one of
Glenn’s listeners called into the Glenn Beck Radio Program to express her
outrage that people like Oprah, President Obama, Al Sharpton and others are so
quick to publicize racial tensions in the death of Trayvon Martin, but have completely
ignored the tragic murders of a young couple in Knoxville, Tennessee. Channon
Christian and Christopher Newsom were raped, tortured, and murdered
after being kidnapped the evening of January 6, 2007. Glenn, who was
unfamiliar with the story, promised the listener he would look into it.
Tonight on the Glenn Beck Program,
Glenn shared the story of Christian and Newsom’s truly horrifying death that
will make you question why we have allowed ourselves to get to a point where
death is politicized by special interests.

The Gruesome Story of a Murdered Tennessee Couple You May Have Never
Heard – But That You Will Never Forget
Aug. 13, 2013 10:37pm Jason Howerton
After a radio caller made him aware of
the extremely disturbing story of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian in
Knoxville, Tenn., Glenn Beck researched the case and was horrified at what he
found.
Though the details are hard to hear,
Beck told the couple’s story in excruciating detail during his show on TheBlaze
TV Tuesday. The killings occurred in 2007; however, Beck says the media failed
to give the case adequate coverage due to special interests or negligence.
Newsom, 23, was a standout baseball
player who was working as a carpenter. Christian was a 21-year-old student at
the University of Tennessee. The happy couple had been dating for a couple
months.
On January 6, 2007, the couple made
plans to watch a movie at a friend’s apartment, but they never made it. They
would never be seen alive again.
When Christian didn’t show up for work
the next morning, family members immediately grew worried and reported them
missing, Beck explained.
“It turns out that the couple had made
it to dinner, but when they arrived at the apartment complex where Christian’s
best friends lived, they were carjacked by multiple assailants,” he said. “What
followed was one of the most heinous, gruesome, senseless hate crimes, ever.”
It was at this point in the program
that Beck advised parents to have their children leave the room or pause the
show and watch it at a later time due to the graphic details of the story.
Newsom was gagged with a sock in his mouth, his ankles were bound with
his own belt, his hands were tied behind his back, his face was covered with a
bandana and his head covered with a sweatshirt that his five assailants had
tied around his neck with shoestrings.
He was then violently raped with an
object and beaten.
“One can only imagine the horror
Christopher experienced as he was then forced to walk barefoot to the nearby
railroad tracks, where he was shot in the neck in the back,” Beck said solemnly.
“But the shots didn’t kill him — he fell to the ground and was paralyzed.”
“That’s when the assailants stood over
him, placed the gun against his head and fired, killing him execution style,”
he added. Newsom was shot a total of three times.
But not even that was enough. The
attackers then poured gasoline on his body and set him on fire.
Unfortunately, the horror of this
tragic story is not over. Beck went on to speak of what also happened to
Christian on that night.
The woman was forced into a back room
of the house where she was hog-tied with a strips of fabric from a bedding set.
She was brutally raped “in every possible way imaginable” for
several hours as the assailants beat her viciously with several objects,
including a broken chair leg.
By the time Christian was taken into
the living room, the five attackers realized they had left their DNA on their
victim. In an attempt to cover their tracks, they poured bleach down her throat
and on her body before they wrapped her body in black garbage bags and covered
her head in a plastic grocery bag.
“She was then placed in a garbage can
in the kitchen of the house — all of this while she was still alive,” Beck
noted.
“Channon Christian’s last minutes on
earth were spent slowly suffocating in a garbage can after she had been savagely
beaten and raped for hours,” he added.
Beck slammed “so-called” civil rights
leaders Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for failing to demand justice in the
brutal case. He criticized the media just as harshly for failing to give the
story the coverage it deserved.

Meanwhile, the pursuit of justice for
the family of the victims has also been elusive.
All five suspects in the case had been
charged
and convicted for the crime when it was discovered that the judge had a drug
addiction, allowing the killers to take advantage of the justice system.
“All but one has been repeatedly
pursuing retrials and appeals,” Beck explained. “The lone female attacker had
her sentence reduced by a third.”
Beck continued: “This miscarriage of
justice is forcing the family to live this horror over and over and over again
each time they are dragged back into a court battle.”
Real “social justice,” the host added,
will only be achieved when justice is truly blind.
The five attackers are Lemaricus
Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins, George Thomas, Vanessa Coleman and Eric Boyd. All
of the previous state convictions, except for Coleman’s, were allowed to stand
and the defendants remain in prison pending appeals. Coleman had her sentence
reduced by a third after a retrial.

Parents of Tenn. Couple Horrifically Raped, Tortured, and Murdered Share
Their Story with Glenn Beck – Here’s What They Want You to Know
Aug. 27, 2013 7:59pm
The parents of Channon Christian and
Christopher Newsom, a young couple horrifically raped, tortured and murdered in
Tennessee in 2007, have one message for parents: teach your kids to protect
themselves, because the unthinkable can happen to anybody.
Glenn Beck has been drawing attention
to the case on radio and television for the past several weeks, scolding the
media that overlooked or failed to tell the whole story as either shielding
themselves from the truth, or passing on a story that doesn’t fit an agenda.
On the Glenn Beck Program Tuesday
night, Beck spent the entire hour with the victims’ parents, letting the family
tell the story in its entirety.
Glenn Beck speaks to the parents of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom on The Blaze TV. |
“Tonight’s story is beyond
horrifying,” Beck said at the start of the show. “It is proof that evil
exists. But the part, also, that I think no one is showing you, is the proof
that good actually exists. I believe the people we’re about to talk about are
who America really is, who we are in our hearts. We are not brutal killers, but
there are those brutal killers that live amongst us.”
Hugh and Mary Newsom, the parents of
Christopher Newsom, and Gary and Deena Christian, the parents of Channon
Christian, began by emphasizing that their children weren’t just murdered, they
were tortured.
It all began when the children were
carjacked in Knoxville Tennessee, in what the parents said wasn’t a bad area of
town.
They described the assailants bad
people who didn’t work, had no money, did nothing but sit around and smoke and
sell drugs, then rob people for money and food. They had the mentality of, ‘I
don’t need to work for it; I’ll just take what you’ve got.’” The ringleaders
had been in prison before, and one of the attackers’ girlfriends actually
participated in the attack.
After the carjacking, though, matters
quickly escalated. The couple was taken to a house. Channon was horrifically
raped and, not wanting to be discovered through their DNA, the attackers poured
bleach down her throat. When they were done, her parents said, the attackers
attempted to snap her neck, but didn’t actually kill her. “So they hog-tied
her,” Channon’s parents said, stuffing her into five garbage bags and then in a
trash can.
The coroners said, though, that she
never lost consciousness throughout all of this, and you could tell from the
way her hands were fixed in the trash can that she was trying to get out, but
couldn’t breathe.
“She died in that garbage can,” they
said.
Christopher’s parents said their son
was taken to a railroad track. His ankles were tied with his own belt, and a
sock was shoved in his mouth. He was forced to walk there naked, except for his
underwear, because the men had taken everything else (one of the men was so desperate
for Chris’ shoes that he forced his own feet into them, despite them being
roughly three sizes too small).
The attackers tied him to a tree,
raped him, beat him, and shot him three times, once in the back, neck, and
head.
But they weren’t done, the parents
said.
“Then they wrapped him up, and set him
on fire.”
The parents said they can speak all
day about how horrific the deaths were, but you can’t fully comprehend it until
you see the pictures. They would haunt you “for the rest of your life,” they
said.
“I haven’t slept for almost seven
years, because all I can think about is those pictures,” one said.
Visibly shaken, Beck comforted the
family with the reminder that “vengeance belongs to the Lord, and it will be
swift and severe…The Lord’s justice will be absolute.”
Gary Christian says he doesn’t want to
take the Lord’s vengeance away from him, he just “wants to be the man to send
them to him.”
“As a father,” he continued slowly,
“you better teach your children how to protect themselves. You can call it
whatever you want to call it, but there are evil people out there that will
hurt your daughter. They don’t care that it’s your daughter. They will hurt her
beyond your comprehension. You better choose some method to teach her to
protect herself….”
“The other thing is that our justice
system is a total, complete joke,” he added. “What we had to go through to get
some sort of justice for our children is as bad as the crime itself. Nobody
should have to go through what we went through to get five guilty verdicts, and
three of them are not even close to being what is just. Veritas aequitas. Truth
and justice — there is none in the courthouse. You have to fight too hard and
too long to get it.”
