On Sunday 29 April 2012, 40-year-old Danny E. Gonzalez was found shot
dead in Waterbury, Connecticut. I suspect those killers must have waited for
the repeal of the death penalty to be in force before they murdered someone.
In a
similar case in France when the death penalty was abolished on 9 October 1981. The
very next day there was a bloody attack on a hotel in Paris in which, about 8
people were killed. The criminals had obviously waited until the law had
been passed before beginning their violent escapade. The murder of Jitka Vesel
is a similar example.

WATERBURY,
Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was found shot to death inside a vehicle in Waterbury
early Sunday morning.
The
shooting occurred around 1 a.m., in the area of 270 Willow Street.
When
police responded to the area for a report of shots fired they found 40-year-old
Danny E. Gonzalez deceased in a vehicle.
Next
door, at St. Margaret Church, people coming to Sunday mass had to walk by the
crime scene.
Parishioners
couldn't help but notice the crime tape so close to their church.
"We
were wondering what it was," said Claire, parishioner, "was it crime,
was it a serious accident, don't know what happened, but we will have to pray
for the people when we go in."
Police
said after initial investigation, it appears that Gonzalez was driving north on
Willow Street when a male passenger in his vehicle shot him.
The
vehicle then crashed into two parked cars and the suspect fled on foot.
"I
didn't hear nothing," said Mario. "I was just playing a video game,
just happened to walk outside on the porch and seen the police."
The
police activity in the Hillside neighborhood caused a stir, with folks watching
from their porches and front stoops. The corner market also provided neighbors
with a place to gather, as parishioners prayed for the victim.
"It
is awful for it to be happening in front of a church," said Mario.
"It's awful for it to be happening period."
The
incident remains under investigation.

Police are searching Luis Colon Ortega, 24, in connection with the April 29 murder of Danny Gonzalez on Willow Street in Waterbury.
Gonzales was driving down Willow Street when police say Ortega shot him from the back seat of the car. Gonzalez died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Officers suspect the shooting stemmed from a dispute earlier in the night.
Police say Ortega recently moved to Connecticut from Puerto Rico. He has a criminal history in Puerto Rico and was just released from prison there in November 2011 where he served time for weapons charges.
It appears that Ortega has fled the state, so officers are working with the US Marshals to track Ortega.
Police say they expect to file charges against a second suspect who served as an accomplice.
Anyone with information about the murder or Ortega’s whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 203-755-1234.

Edward Koch, a former
mayor of New York said, “"Had the death penalty
been a real possibility in the minds of...murderers, they might well have
stayed their hand. They might have shown moral awareness before their victims
died...Consider the tragic death of Rosa Velez, who happened to be home when a
man named Luis Vera burglarized her apartment in Brooklyn. "Yeah, I shot
her," Vera admitted. "...and I knew I wouldn't go to the chair."
When Illinois abolished the death
penalty, the homicide rates had increased, the same thing might happen to
Connecticut too.
