JOLISSA SOCORRO RANGEL "COCO" Jolissa Socorro Rangel "Coco" was a very loving devoted mother, caring grandaughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend. She was a very hard worker, who had aspirations of becoming a Registered Nurse. She had a heart of gold and was loved by many. She is preceded in death by, her paternal grandparents, Antonio and Nicolasa Rangel, paternal cousins Jaime Zapata (Bino) and Ray Garcia, her maternal grandfather, Jose Angel Flores and, her maternal aunt Maria Elena Flores. She is survived by her son Eloy Cano III (Bambino) parents, Jose (Bonnie) Rangel, and Martha Flores Rangel, maternal grandmother Maria Socorro Flores, her sons father, Eloy Cano Jr, (niece) Dezirae Avila, and sibilings, Melissa Espinoza, Vanessa (Luis) Garcia, Joanne Rangel, Kristine Esquivel, Jose Rangel Jr (Joey), Jose Rangel Jr (Lil Joe), Edward Salinas, Maria Rangel (Nena), Antonio Rangel, and Nicolosa Rangel.Visitation will be held Thursday October 31, 2013 from 1:00pm-9:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Vaughan Watson Funeral Home in Edinburg, Tx. Mass will be held Friday November 1, 2013 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, TX. Interment will follow to Palm Valley Memorial Cemetery in Pharr, TX. Mother continues fight for justice more than a year after daughter TMs murder

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 03:38:18 GMT — In her first interview, an emotional Edinburg mother held back tears as she recalled her daughter's murder.

"You could see us smile, but behind our smile it still hurts like it was yesterday, and I don't wish this on nobody, said Martha Flores, the mother of Jolissa Rangel, who was murdered on Oct. 25, 2013.

On that day, Flores's world was turned upside down, and her daughter's killers have not been caught.

So, when I got there, I saw the yellow tapes of the police, and they won't let me through, explained Flores. "I was talking to one of the investigators to ask what happened, and he really didn't want to tell me until he finally told me Jolissa was deceased. That was a nightmare. Ever since then, my life stopped."

A couple of rounds were fired through the front door of her apartment on Kimberly Lane in Edinburg.

Rangel was murdered days before her 21st birthday. Her 2-year-old son is being raised without his mother.

Three men tried to kick down Rangel's door, according to investigators. Three pickup trucks were seen fleeing the scene.

In December, investigators released video of two persons of interest, but no arrests have been made.

You know, three cowards chose, and they chose to take my daughter's life, Flores said. I don't wish this on anybody. We want justice. Nobody deserves for their life to be taken."

It's why Flores is trying to raise awareness and advocating for families who have lost loved one due to violence.

All these cowards are getting away with it and doing plea bargains " 15 years, 20 years. Am I going to get my daughter back ten years from now again? Are they going to get their loved ones back from ten, fifteen years back? No, they are leaving kids without parents and murder is a choice, she said.

Flores met with the families of victims who's killers were never caught.

In continuing her fight for justice, Flores hopes by speaking out she can help other families dealing with a similar loss.

The day they killed my daughter, and they took her away from me, the murderers, I thought I was alone, but there's an organization " the Rio Grande Valley Friends and Family of Murdered Children and Robert was there to support me, and I'm here to reach out to other loved ones that they are not alone, and it's not easy, but we're going to live on little by little, day by day, Flores said.
